Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday announced that the Centre is working towards creating a 50 percent reservation for women in urban local bodies across the nation.
Inaugurating a two-day conference on Gender and Urban Poverty in the national capital, Naidu stated that such a move, which shall be made via an amendment in the Constitution, will promote the participation of women in urban policy making.
Naidu also stressed on the need for urban policies to be guided by women's perspectives, adding that the Centre aims to promote engendered cities with the objective of the welfare of women.
