West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday handed out relief cheques worth Rs. four lakh to families of the victims of the heavy rains and the resultant landslides in the Darjeeling district of the state.
Mamata shared the information on twitter.
"Earlier handed over cheques of Rs. 4 lakh each to families of some victims. Life is too precious," she posted.
The death toll due to landslides in Darjeeling has gone up to 38, leaving over 23 people missing and 500 displaced.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju had also visited the district to stock of the landslide affected areas and assured the people that the government was trying to make the best rescue operation and would do whatever was necessary.
