West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked the state police to install closed-circuit television (CCTVs) cameras along the state's border with Jharkhand in a bid to check untoward incidents and prevent the entry of alleged miscreants.

Speaking at an administrative review meeting in Purulia on Tuesday, Banerjee questioned the police officials about checking or vigil watch in the districts which share its borders with neighbouring Jharkhand.

"Purulia is the border area of Jharkhand. Do we keep a watch there? Is customs checking (naka) done there? Do we check any gun being imported from other areas to here? Jhargram Purulia route is connected with Bankura's Jhilimili and that is connected to Jharkhand," she said.

Banerjee underlined that protecting the corridor of the border is akin to cleaning the corridor of a house, while sensitising the police about their duty to protect nearby border regions.

"We know geography very well so you (police) have to know your nearby borders. Whenever I am cleaning my house, I also clean my corridor. The border is your corridor. So you have to install CCTVs and watch towers there (along West Bengal-Jharkhand border)," she added.
