Manchester United has reportedly drafted former midfielder Paul Scholes to assist the club's newly appointed interim manager Ryan Giggs.

Scholes, who Scholes briefly worked as a coach at the club after first retiring as a player in 2011, has joined his former teammates Giggs, who was placed in temporary charge of the first team after the axing of David Moyes, and Nicky Butt and Phil Neville, who are already on United's backroom staff.

According to Sport24, expressing pleasure at Scholes' appointment, United said on their official Twitter feed that it is great to see him at the AON Training Complex, assisting Giggs, Butt and Neville, who all graduated from the United youth team in the early 1990s to play key roles under iconic former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Although Moyes reportedly tried to persuade Scholes to join his back-room staff at the start of the current season, but the former England international elected not to accept his offer.

The report mentioned that Scholes made a total of 718 appearances for United, scoring 155 goals, and won 11 Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, two Champions League titles and one Club World Cup during his time at the club.
