Congress leader Manish Tewari on Monday stated that evidences must be placed in front of the public to substantiate the serious allegation of cow slaughter funding terrorism made by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi. He warned that such statements could lead to a polarization of society.

Tewari told ANI, "If a minister of the union makes such a serious allegation, he or she must substantiate it with evidence, which must be put up in the public domain."

"If at all she has evidence to the effect that a certain activity is funding terror, it is a very very serious charge and all evidence with regard to that must be put into public domain and if he or she doesnot have the evidence then they should desist from making statements which only serve to polarise the country and create tension," he added.

On Sunday, Gandhi claimed that the money from illegal animal slaughter is being used for perpetrating acts of terrorism.

She was critical about the fact that the increasing export of beef outside the country was leading to a scarcity of healthy milk and the subsequent adulteration of dairy products in India.
