Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)Delhi Convenor Gopal Rai on Saturday alleged that BJP MP and Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari is "spreading lies" on the issue of statehood to Delhi and is "falsely claiming" that the Supreme Court has stated that Delhi cannot be granted statehood.

"Latest attempt by Tiwari to spread further falsehoods on Delhi statehood was during his Twitter Chaupal, during which he said since the Supreme Court of India has stated that Delhi cannot be granted statehood, therefore, this matter is now over," said Rai, as per a party statement.

"AAP challenges Manoj Tiwari to show which case regarding full statehood for Delhi was filed in the Supreme Court and when. Who filed the case and what was the Supreme Court judgment in the Delhi statehood case? He should put that judgment in the public domain?" he asked.

"Manoj Tiwari says Delhi can't be granted statehood since Arvind Kejriwal sat on a dharna outside Rail Bhawan in January 2014, then why did his party promise statehood for Delhi in March 2014, when BJP released a Delhi-specific manifesto ?" Rai also asked.

The AAP leader also said Manoj Tiwari should clarify whether his stand is the official stance of BJP on the statehood for Delhi or his own.

Delhi will go to polls on May 12 while counting of votes will take place on May 23.
