New Zealand opener Martin Guptill re-wrote the record sheets with a display of what was undoubtedly one of the best power hitting batting, as he hit the highest ever score in a World Cup during their ongoing quarterfinal tie against the West Indies in Wellington on Saturday.

Guptil knocked a daunting 237 not out off 163 balls, the second-highest score in the history of ODI cricket, to help New Zealand post a monster total of 393-6.

Reaching his double ton off just 152 deliveries, Guptill then motored past Chris Gayle's record for the highest total in a World Cup, set just a few weeks ago when he made 215 against Zimbabwe in Canberra, before eventually finishing on 237 not out, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Guptill fired his way to the unbeaten 237 with 24 fours and 11 sixes in a memorable innings.

Amazingly Guptill could have been out off just the third ball of the match when he presented a sharp chance to Marlon Samuels at square leg, but he couldn't hang onto it, the report added.
