Australia big-hitting batsman Glenn Maxwell has lavished praise on veteran all-rounder Shane Watson for playing a match winning innings against Pakistan in the World Cup quarterfinal in Adelaide.
Pakistan left-arm pacer Riaz produced one of the blistering spells of pace bowling against Australia, where he peppered Australian all-rounder Watson with a bouncer barrage after scalping David Warner and skipper Michael Clarke.
Watson battled past Riaz's ferocious spell and scored an unbeaten 64 runs to guide his team to a six wicket over Misbah-ul-Haq's team.
Reflecting on Watson's match winning innings, Maxwell said that his innings showed the true class he really was, adding that it was incredible to see the way he weathered the storm from Wahab, sort of curbed his natural aggression, News.com.au reported.
Describing Watson's innings as 'high-class', Maxwell insisted that the way Watson got through that spell and set it up for the rest of the middle order to finish off was outstanding.
Maxwell added that it just shows his experience and if he is playing well they have got a great chance of winning the tournament.
