Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Sunday urged the people in poll-bound Jammu and Kashmir to get rid of the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to ensure that peace prevails in the state.

"If you want peace in your state then you should make sure that parties like the Congress and the BJP don't come to power," said Mayawati while urging the locals here to vote for her party candidates in the third phase of assembly elections scheduled for December 9.

The BSP chief alleged that the opposition parties were making false claims in their election manifesto.

"The opposition parties make false claims and release fake election manifestos. You shouldn't trust them," she said while addressing a rally in Jammu.

Taking a jibe at the BJP's promise of 'acche din', Mayawati claimed that the ruling government at the Centre has not take any positive step in this direction.

She also said that so far no government both at the Centre as well as the state has by its schemes succeeded in eradicating poverty and unemployment from Jammu and Kashmir.

"Corruption has increased in India and Jammu and Kashmir is also affected by it, no work is done without bribery, and the poor and middle class are suffering the most. Since independence, wrong parties have come to power at the Centre and in the state," said Mayawati.

"And we blame all the opposition parties including the Congress and the BJP and various other parties because they have gained power with the help of capitalists, so after coming to power they don't work to solve the problems of the common people but to serve the capitalists so that they can retain power with the help of their money," she added.

Asserting that the BSP never backs on the money of capitalists to fight the polls, Mayawati said: "If you want to get rid of all the problems in Jammu and Kashmir then don't choose the Congress, the BJP or any other opposition parties again, in fact choose the BSP, because we don't fight elections with the capitalists' money."

The BSP chief also claimed that her party doesn't believe in mere speeches but makes all efforts to fulfill the promises made to the people.

"We will solve all your problems after coming to power in Jammu and Kashmir. We formed the government four times in UP and worked for all classes of the society, especially the minority. We have also worked for the villagers, by providing water, electricity, toilets, etc, and also took care for the development of the Dalit community," said Mayawati.

"We also gave 2 BHK flats to the poor people who didn't have any place to live on government expense and also made appropriate use of the government land lying vacant in the state. We also gave free land to poor farmers for agriculture, and gave jobs to the unemployed in both government as well as the private sector," she added.

Attempting to reach out to the farmers and poor sections of the society, she also said that her party works on the policy that the 'government land is people's land'.

"You can have the government land only when you have the master key of political power in your hand. When we were in power in UP, we followed this rule only," she said.

The third phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls will take place on December 9.

72 percent voter turnout was registered in the second phase of Assembly elections in the valley on Tuesday.

The result of the assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir will be announced on December 23.
