MH 370: possible debris found on Tanzanian island

Aircraft wreckage, most likely from the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, has been found on an island off the east African coast.

Australia's Transport Minister Darren Chester, who oversees the search for the Boeing 777 that vanished in 2014 with 239 people on board, was quoted by The Guardian, as saying that a "piece of aircraft debris" was found on Pemba Island off the coast of Tanzania.

Chester added the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, which is conducting the search on Malaysia's behalf, is seeking further information to determine whether the debris is from flight 370 or not.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 vanished out of radar on March 8, 2014, while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Though the authorities say the plane probably crashed in the Indian Ocean, but no main wreckage has been found by the officials despite an extensive underwater search of a vast area.

The search operation of the 120,000-square kilometer (46,000-square mile) area is to be completed by August and there are no plans as of now to extend the hunt beyond that.
