Miandad says PCB's summer-camp will be 'bereft of benefits'

Former Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad is of the opinion that the summer camp planned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would not benefit them in any way and feels that a tournament must have been organised in its place.

The legendary batsman said that the summer camp will not do any good, adding that in place of the camp a tournament must have been organised to choose the players who perform better for Pakistan's upcoming tours and 2015 World Cup.

According to The Nation, the PCB has announced a pool of 36 probables to participate in the summer camp that will go on for a month at the Gaddafi Stadium starting from May 6.

However, Miandad said that a player at this stage does not need to train in summer camps, adding that the player should be practicing himself for his betterment and to remain fully fit.

Miandad further added that the month-long summer camp would damage the player's fitness and could make them pale due to the extreme hot weather.

Miandad also said that games like swimming and other indoor games require summer camps, but not cricket

The former batsman said that a player's fitness and performance is judged in the matches he plays and so the PCB should have held a month-long tournament instead as no performance can be judged in a camp.

Miandad said that he is also unable to understand why the PCB has recalled the long-time discarded players in the camp, adding that it is time the selectors make up their minds about who would play for the nation in the 2015 World Cup and who would not.

The coaching staff of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) would supervise the coaching staff, headed by Mohammad Akram as the PCB is currently searching for national coaches, the report added.
