At a time when people are facing shortage of fuel owing to imposition of economic blockade within the state as well as in Assam, a militant group has reportedly served a monetary demand of Rs 50 lakh to Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Chingmeirong.

Sources said the demand letter signed by Finance Secretary of the militant group and addressed to Choudhury, the Divisional Manager of IOCL's Imphal branch, was sent to the office by an unknown person at around 11.30 am on August 15.

According to the demand note, the monetary demand should be met within 15 days.

The monetary demand came up at a time when the people faced acute shortage of fuel.

Many of the fuel outlets in the state remains dry and the limited stock which have been supplied to them cannot meet the demand supply. In order to meet the requirements, the public are forced to buy petrol at the cost of Rs. 120 per litre from black-marketers.
