Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Monday said Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister, has been given additional National Security Guard (NSG) commandoes, and added that he was not entitled to Special Protection Group (SPG) security as per Indian law.

"Looking at security risks, we have already given Modi NSG. The Gujarat unit is also with him and we have also given orders of Advance Security Liaison (ASL) for him. We cannot give him SPG because that is the Indian law," he told media here today.

The BJP has been demanding SPG cover for Modi after serial bombs exploded ahead of his 'Hunkar' rally in Patna's Gandhi Maidan on October 27 that left seven dead and over 80 injured.

The saffron outfit has demanded foolproof prime minister-level security for Modi, but the Congress-led government has ruled out SPG protection for him because such a step would need an amendment of the SPG Law.
