Mohsin slams PCB for snubbing 'deserving candidates' in favour of 'tainted' Younis for head coach job

Former Pakistani batsman Mohsin Khan has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for being overlooked for the job of the head coach of the national team in favour of fast bowling legend Waqar Younis.

Khan had applied for the position of head coach but the PCB handed a two-year contract to Younis, who played 87 Tests and 262 ODIs for Pakistan, for a second stint in the role after his previous one from February 2010 to September 2011.

According to Sport24, Younis was one of six players fined following a judicial inquiry into match-fixing launched in 1998 that led to lifetime bans for Salim Malik and Ataur Rehman two years later and Khan accused the PCB of hiring 'tainted' players instead of 'deserving candidates' like him.

Khan, who as temporary coach guided Pakistan to a 3-0 rout of then world number one side England in 2012, said that the PCB threw dust into everyone's eyes and was not moving on from past scandals.

Khan also said that the board is not setting any examples by patronising tainted players and has risked Pakistan's playing status with other nations, adding that if the need arises, he will go to the court against the matter and also inform Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Younis takes over the role vacated by Australian coach Dav Whatmore, whose contract expired in March, the report added.
