Hundreds of youth from Nagaland got a chance to avail employment opportunities with more than 30 reputed companies based across India through a day-long job fair at Unity College in Dimapur.

The event was organized by the Placement cell of the college in collaboration with NIIT Dimapur center with an aim to provide exposure to the youth.

A number of renowned companies including Wipro, Infosys, Allen Solly and Genpact expressed interest to recruit the youth from the Northeast.

"Our placement cell committee along with NIIT is conducting this job fair for our youth. Around 30 companies from National level are coming for recruitment including from in and around Nagaland and other states like Kolkata, Gujarat and Guwahati," said Dr Sanjay Kumar Chhabra, Principal, Unity College.

The candidates had the option of applying for different job profiles and had to undergo a screening process that tested their skills

A total of 79 candidates were shortlisted by the participating companies.

"I am here applying for the post of store manager for Allen Solly. This feels great. This is the first time I am going to give an interview. I thank the college for giving us this opportunity to explore ourselves because as we are going to graduate by the end of this month, it's a good thing that the college has thought about this and given us this opportunity," said a student.

"We got a good response today. We have collected around 15 names both for openings in Nagaland and outside," said Diana, Head of placement, People's Channel.

Nagaland has a very high literacy rate and there is a large proportion of educated unemployed youth in the state.

Organizing such job fairs on a regular basis will help the companies to tap into the talented pool of youth and provide them employment opportunities.
