The Mumbai Metro service today started with its first journey between Versova and Ghatkopar.

The Metro will link Andheri station on the Western Railway line to Ghatkopar on Central Railway line.

Abhay Mishra, chief executive of the mumbai metro train said, "The public services will start from 1 pm. The peak hours will be, the starting time would be 5.30 to 12.00 in the night. We will monitor the peak hours for this train, the frequency for the peak hours will be four minutes and non peak hour frequency will be eight minutes."

There has also been a row over the fare of the metro between the state government and Rinfra where Reliance Infrastructure has demanded a steep increase in fare prices. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, however, has not consented to the hike in prices.

The much awaited metro service comes four months after the city got the country's first monorail between suburban Chembur and Wadala on February 01 earlier this year.
