NDA committed to provide reservation to downtrodden: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday downplayed veteran social activist Anna Hazare's remarks on reservation and said the NDA Government at the Centre is committed to provide reservation to the backward and downtrodden.

"There is no discussion on the issue of reservation which is there as per the law. The BJP and the NDA both are committed for providing reservation which is there to push forward the backward sections of the society. Whatever Anna ji has said is his personal thinking and ideology," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters.

Hazare had earlier said the reservation system, which was required only for some time after Independence, pose a threat to the country 'as political parties have got involved in it'.

"The country faces a threat from the reservation system. Reservation was needed only for some time after Independence but now political parties have got involved in it," said Hazare.
