Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that the first year of the NDA Government has converted a situation of despair and doubt into an atmosphere of hope and confidence under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Briefing media here, Singh said that good governance was kept in exile during the ten years of the previous UPA regime.
"Officially, I assumed office of the Home Ministry last year on this day. During ten years of the Congress-led UPA regime, there was a situation of despair and doubt. And, in one year, under the leadership
of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the environment of despair and doubt has been turned to hope and confidence," Singh claimed.
"As a result of poor governance and corruption of the Congress-led UPA Government, good governance and development was kept in exile. But within one year, the BJP was able to bring back good
governance and development," he added.
The Home Minister also said that the foreign visits of Prime Minister Modi have helped India to achieve a strategic space in other countries.
Singh further said that the three parameters to assess the performance of a government are socio-economic, diplomatic and strategic front and external and internal security.
"Inflation rate was higher than the growth rate under UPA Government. The situation is very different now. I believe that in a few years, our economic movement will be more than China. This will happen due to our transparent administrative system," he said.
"There has been complete transparency in defence deals cleared by our government. Our nuclear agreements with nations such as Canada have given a new high to the Make in India initiative. We gave a new dimension to diplomacy, combining strategic and cultural diplomacy," he added.
Speaking on the internal security, Singh said that the MHA has ensured the safety of the nation and its citizens.
"The home ministry is like a test match in a longer version. So, in the past one year, I can safely say, without losing a wicket, that we have ensured internal security," he said.
"We have started development work in the Maoist-hit areas. 2,199 mobile towers have been established in our first year in districts affected by Maoism. The morale of our security forces has gone up significantly," he added.
