There is a need to bring balance in the implementation of Bali Ministerial Decisions. All three pillars - Trade Facilitation, Food Security and LDCs issues - must be accorded adequate importance while taking forward the outcomes of Bali Ministerial.

This was emphasised by CII in a press statement on Tuesday.

"A great amount of effort have gone into clinching a balanced Bali deal. Hence it must not be wasted and all efforts must be made to use Bali Ministerial outcomes as springboard to conclude the Doha round, which is into its 13th year of negotiations", said Ajay Shriram, President, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

"Trade facilitation undoubtedly is important to Indian industry and this is also a low-hanging fruit in the current negotiations. The agreement on trade facilitation must be taken to its logical conclusion along with commensurate progress on other two issues of Bali Ministerial Decisions", he further emphasised.

The Bali package was crafted with great care to bring a balanced outcome, keeping in mind the core development mandate of Doha agenda. It is in the interest of the multilateral trading system to ensure a balanced result.
