Nepal granted Rs 1.83 billion assistance from Japan

Japan today pledged to extend an assistance of Rs 1.832 billion to Nepal for implementation of two projects, on part of 60th anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

According to a statement issued by the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu, Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Masashi Ogawa and Nepal's Finance Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi signed the agreements, reports the Himalayan Times.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Nobuo Kishi were present on the occasion.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nepal Chief Jun Sakuma and Ministry of Finance Joint-Secretary Baikuntha Aryal also signed the grant agreements for smooth implementation of the projects.

The statement said that Rs 1.518 billion of the grant would be spend for the implementation of the Project for Improvement of Aviation Safety Facilities in Major Airports, with the purpose of improving the safety and efficiency of air transport in Nepal and Rs 313 million would be spent for the implementation of the School Sector Development Programme (SSDP).
