Netherlands made a late comeback in their match against Mexico to rescue their World Cup dream and deny their rivals a chance to reach a first quarterfinal in 28 years.
Netherlands substitute Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored the deciding goal from the penalty spot in injury-time after Arjen Robben was fouled by Mexico captain Rafael Marquez.
According to the BBC, midfielder Wesley Sneijder provided Netherlands with the equaliser for Netherlands in the 88th minute after Giovani dos Santos had provided Mexico with the lead in the 48th minute.
It is Mexico's sixth successive loss in the second round of the World Cup, dating back to 1994.
Netherlands will now face Costa Rica in the quarterfinal stage of the World Cup to fight for a place in the semifinals, the report added.
