The introduction of new US sanctions will not affect the energy supply of consumers on the Crimean peninsula or the work of the Crimea TPP company, the Russian Energy Ministry said Thursday.

Earlier in the day, the United States imposed sanctions on three individuals and nine entities over their investment and economic activity in Crimea and Donbas. The Crimea TPP, formally known as Krymtets AO, is among the sanctioned entities. According to the US Treasury Department, in 2017, the company secured a Russian tender to provide power to Crimean residents until additional power plants are launched on the peninsula.

"The imposition of sanctions will not affect the energy supply for consumers on the Crimean peninsula or the work of the Crimea TPP ... The modernization and expansion of one of the facilities of the Crimea TPP - the Sakskaya thermal power plant is carried out with the use of Russian equipment," the ministry said in a statement.

The Sakskaya thermal power station is one of the facilities supplying residents of Crimea with electric power. Krymtets funds the reconstruction of the Sakskaya plant.
