The market on Thursday struggled to achieve the attention as it ended lower with the Sensex ending down 170.62 points or 0.7 percent at 24623.34.
Nifty on the other hand slipped 45.65 points or 0.6 percent at 7486.15.About 1186 shares have advanced, 1415 shares declined, and 147 shares are unchanged.
Shares amongst the gainers had Hindalco, HDFC, Maruti, Bharti and Cipla, whereas, BHEL, Reliance, GAIL and Infosys were among losers.
Sectoral indices which remained under pressure were capital goods (-1.5 percent), IT (-1.3 percent), FMCG (-1.0 percent) and oil & gas (-0.9 percent), while metals (0.7 percent) and consumer durables (0.1 percent) gained.
