The safety of human beings and property has always been a matter of major concern.

And in this regard, Japanese companies are addressing it by using advanced technology.

In Korea, Rinnai, a Japanese company is manufacturing cooking gas tables as per the safety regulation code implemented by Korea Gas Safety Corporation in 2012.

As per reports, 54 per cent of residential fire cases in Korea are due to gas stoves overheating.

Now, Korea follows safety standards as implemented in Japan.

Hee Suh Park, General Manager, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, said: "In Japan, a gas safety standard was established in 2008 and safety sensors were made mandatory for all gas tables. Since then, the number of household fire incidents has been decreasing by 8 per cent every year. We have introduced the same safety measures in Korea.

The Korea Gas Safety Corporation will regulate the safety sensors for every cooking gas burner from December this year.

However, Rinnai Korea has been practicing gas safety technology developed by Rinnai, Japan, even before the KGS code came into existence.

Kang Young Chul, President and CEO, Rinnai Korea Corporation, said: "Now, safety sensor device is regulated by KGS standard and the sensor stops at 300 degree C. We are considering more safety measures for customers and are trying to regulate the sensor to work at 275 degree C. We also have painstaking inspection for safety standards in our production line."

To protect houses from natural disasters like Tsunami, Nippon Steel and Sumikin Metal Products Corporation (NSMP) has designed a Tsunami evacuation shelter called "Safe Guard Tower".

The company's unit in Sendai, which faced Tsunami disaster on March 11 in 2011, came up with a new technology for safe buildings.

It manufactures building products such as Hollow Structural Sections called U-Column.

It is made of steel.

Kenji Hirayama, General Superintendent, Nippon Steel and Sumikin Metal Products Co. Ltd., said: "This is our product - U-Column, Carbon Steel Hollow Structural Section - which has been manufactured at Sendai Works. This column and H structure section builds the structure of U-Column structure. This U-Column structure is stable even if it loses one column out of six. It is based on the technical guideline of Tsunami shelter facilities, which was released by the ministry of land and traffic last year."

The U-Column has an empty space inside the tube and emergency items like water and food can be stored in it.

Nippon Steel and Sumikin Metal Products Corporation is looking to promote Tsunami resistant structures in South East Asia, especially where the risk of natural disasters is high.
