Pak announces 36 probables for month-long cricket camp at Karachi

The national selection committee of Pakistan has reportedly included cricketers Yasir Hameed, Mohammad Sami, Wahab Riaz and Taufiq Umar among the 36 probables for a month-long summer camp to be held at the National Stadium in Karachi.

The camp, which will see players undergo extensive training in order to achieve high levels of fitness, will begin on May 6 under the supervision of chief selector Moin Khan and National Cricket Academy head coach and selector Mohammad Akram.

According to the Express Tribune, Khan, who heads the committee including members Ejaz Ahmed, Shoaib Mohammad, Saleem Yousuf and Wajahatullah Wasti, said that they have named the best players for the first phase of the camp keeping in mind their current form and past track record.

Khan further said that they want to utilise the off-season to address the crucial issue of fitness, which has been their main concern, adding that the second phase of the camp will be held after Eid, where they would call a pool of young upcoming players. hmed Shehzad, Hameed, Shan Masood, Umar are among the eight announced openers, Test and ODI captain Misbah-ul Haq, Younus Khan, Umar Akmal are among the middle-order batsmen, Mohammad Hafeez and Shahid Afridi are among the all-rounders, while Umar Gul will lead the pack of pacers that also have Riaz and Sami among them.

Meanwhile, only two wicket-keepers have been selected for the camp; Sarfaraz Ahmed and Adnan Akmal while Kamran Akmal was overlooked after his lacklustre performances in the recently concluded Asia Cup and World Twenty20.

Khan stressed that this will be Pakistan's main core of players who will be considered for upcoming assignments such as the series against Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand and eventually the 2015 ODI World Cup, the report added.
