Special Assistant to Prime Minister Sharif on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi on Tuesday condemned the latest unprovoked ceasefire violations by Indian security forces in the Pukhlian-Aknur sector along the Working Boundary.
Expressing the deepest condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives in the fresh ceasefire violations, Pakistan Foreign Office has impressed upon the Indian government to stop such activities and to observe the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding that was agreed upon by the two South Asian nations for the maintenance of peace and tranquility along the LoC and the Working Boundary.
The unprovoked ceasefire violations were started by Indian security forces at New Kane and two other posts today early in the morning in which two Pakistani civilians, including a minor, were killed and 14 others injured.
Pakistani posts responded to this provocation which was subsequently followed by retaliation from the Indian side, targeting the civilians in the adjoining villages.
Tensions along the border between the two nations have escalated despite an hour-long meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Ufa, Russia on July 10.
A border ceasefire agreement was signed by the neighbours in 2003, but both frequently accuse each other of breaching it.
