Pakistan's federal government has challenged the recent ruling by Sindh High Court to remove the country's former president General Pervez Musharraf's name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

The move comes after a two-judge bench of the SHC, comprising Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Shahnawaz, issued the order allowing Musharraf to leave the country.

According to Dawn, Attorney General Pakistan Salman Aslam Butt filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the ruling of the high court, requesting the court to not allow the removal of Musharraf's name from the list and continue travel restrictions on the former military ruler.

The attorney general argued that the federal government could not take the risk of allowing Musharraf to leave the country, for then he would have the chance to flee and evade a treason case that involved the death penalty, the report said.
