Pak politicians dismayed over military's involvement in resolving political crisis

Political leaders in Pakistan are reportedly unhappy with the involvement of the army in resolving the ongoing political crisis in the country.

Following Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri's meeting with the army chief on Thursday night, various political leaders have expressed their disappointment over army's role as the mediator between the protesting parties and the government.

Speaking on the issue, former PML-N stalwart Javed Hashmi said it was shameful that politicians were unable to resolve the issue on their own, despite having the time.

Hashmi said that real democracy would only flourish in the country when politicians were able to make their own decisions, adding the most one can expect from the army was the role of a guarantor between two parties, Dawn News reports.

On hearing of General Raheel Sharif's intervention in the matter, retired Justice Tariq Mehmood responded by saying that this was the end of democracy, the Constitution and supremacy of the parliament in the country.

JUI-F spokesperson Jan Achakzai slammed the politicians for their inability to resolve the issue by themselves, but said that he welcomed any deal that remained within the spirit of democracy and the Constitution of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, PPP leader Syed Khursheed Shah, who is also the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, said he would ask Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as to why the army chief was involved when almost all political parties were present in the house and were willing to offer their services to them.

Criticizing the decision to make military a political guarantor, ANP's Haji Adeel, said this was a major failure for all politicians.
