Pak Punjab police arrest 205 terror suspects, mostly Afghans

Law enforcement personnel in Pakistan's Punjab province have confirmed the arrest of at least 205 terror suspects, mostly Afghan nationals, in the last 24 hours, following a province-wide search and sweep operation.

The Dawn quoted a spokesman of the Punjab Police, as saying that the search operation is being undertaken by the counter-terrorism department (CTD), police and intelligence agencies. Saturday was the fifth day of the operation, he added.

He said the suspects arrested by the law enforcement agencies have been taken to undisclosed locations for further questioning.

He said the search operation was conducted in Badami Bagh, Raiwind, Civil Lines, Old Anarkali, Gulshan-i-Ravi, Gulberg, Ghalib Market, Nishter Colony, Sanda, Naseerabad, Township and other areas.

He said the number of police personnel have been increased at all sensitive government installations and focus is being made on intelligence-based search operations by the law enforcement agencies to maximize there results.

The police, he said, has retrieved arms and ammunition from the arrested.

The police also took into custody those who failed to produce documents to prove their identity.
