Pakistani Taliban's deputy leader Khan Said 'Sajna' has been listed as a 'global terrorist' by the US.
The White House has also slapped sanctions on Said, who became deputy leader of Tehreek-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) after the death of Waliur Rehman in May 2013.
According to a notification issued by the US Department of State, Said along with Egyptian Ramzi Mawafi were designated as "Specially Designated Global Terrorists" under Executive Order (E.O.) 13224, which targets terrorists and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism, the Express Tribune reports.
Said is believed to be the mastermind behind the Bannu jail attack in 2012.
He is also suspected to have orchestrated the attack on a Naval base in Karachi.
Said leads the Mehsud faction that became independent of the TTP in May 2014.
