Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has claimed that he was hurt at becoming the club's first manager to lose four successive North-East derbies following a 1-0 defeat by Sunderland on Sunday.

Sunderland recorded their third win on the run at St James' Park, on Sunday, with Adam Johnson grabbing the winner in the 90th minute.

Pardew said that losing four in a row is a tag that is going to stick on him, adding that it's another defeat to Sunderland and it hurts. He said that his side should have been sitting there as winners but they lost, The BBC reported.

Newcastle had chances to win the match in the second half as their striker Ayoze Perez forced Sunderland keeper Costel Pantilimon into making two good saves, while substitute Adam Armstrong also went close with a strike. However, both failed to capitalise with their efforts.

Pardew said that he was proud of how the team approached the game, adding that it wasn't their day. He also praised his 21-year-old goalkeeper Jak Alnwick for standing up to enormous pressure in only his fourth senior game, with Tim Krul and Rob Elliot out injured.
