PCB threatens to reopen Wasim Akram's betting files

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has warned Wasim Akram that the files regarding his involvement in betting could be reopened after the former skipper questioned the constitution of a special committee.

Following the team's dismal performance in the recently-concluded Asia Cup T20, the PCB had constituted the committee in a bid to examine the national side's performance in the upcoming World T20 in India.

Veteran batsman Younis Khan and Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, Shakil Sheikh (Chairman Cricket Committee), Subhan Ahmad (Chief Operating Officer) and Iqbal Qasim (Member) were named in the committee, which will work towards the improvement of the selection process in the national side.

Sheikh lashed out at Akram for questioning his appointment, saying that he should first have a look at his own career and allegations levelled against him before criticizing others, the Dawn reported.

The special committee chairman also referred to Justice Malik Qayyum's report on match-fixing in 2000 and said that Akram was the one who brought betting in Pakistan cricket.

He added that Akram was not in favour of the inquiry committee because he was scared that something against him would come out.

Pakistan, which suffered a humiliating defeats at the hands of hosts Bangladesh and India in Asia Cup T20, are due to play their World T20 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata from March 16.
