Petition moved in SC against law minister for aiding Musharraf during Nov 3 emergency

A petition has been moved in Pakistan Supreme Court requesting it to restrain Zahid Hamid from working as federal law minister until the treason case against former President Pervez Musharraf is dropped.

The petition stated that Hamid aided Musharraf impose emergency on November 3, 2007 and in his subsequent unconstitutional and unlawful acts.

According to the Daily Times, the petitioner, lawyer Sheikh Ahsanuddin, said that all the record in the custody of the Ministry of Law and Justice from November 3, 2007 to December 16, 2007 pertaining to the emergency be sealed.

He also said that the ministry be directed to take all necessary steps and measures to keep the record intact and save it from any manipulation, tampering, change or misplacement.

Hamid was appointed as federal law minister on August 6, 2007 in the cabinet of the then prime minister Shaukat Aziz and he was the law minister at the time the unconstitutional emergency was proclaimed by Musharraf, the report added.
