In a big move for the North-East, the Government of India today signed a peace accord with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN).
"I thank God for this momentous occasion. Naga people have great respect for Mahatma Gandhi," NSCN'S Thuingaleng Muivah said after the signing of the peace accord.
"We appreciate the statesmanship of Shri Atal Bihar Vajpayee ji. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have come close to understand each other and worked out a new relation between the two parties. Nagas will forever remember you for your statesmanship," he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier said that there will be a special announcement at his official, 7 Race Course Road residence.
