PM Modi outlines govt's achievements in Philippines

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday outlined his government's achievements after coming to power in 2014 and said their efforts were aimed at transforming India.

Addressing Indian diaspora in the Philippine capital Manila, Modi said since Jan Dhan Yojana's inception, Rs 67,000 crore has been deposited in the banks and helped developed a "saving" attitude among the masses.

Talking about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, he said they have also taken forward Mahatma Gandhi's work and now more than 2.15 lakh villages in the country were free of open defecation.

During his address, he also attacked previous UPA government over doling out gas subsidies and said since 2014, 3 crore households have been provided with gas connection and by 2019, in all 5 crore households would have the connection.

He also said they have changed the discourse on corruption.

Earlier, public used to discuss how much money has been lost in 2G, CWG and coal scams and post 2014, they have been asking how much has been recovered, said, the prime minister while addressing the gathering.

Early in his address, he also spoke about India's contribution to world peace.

"Our contingent in the UN Peacekeeping Forces is among the biggest. India is the land of Mahatma Gandhi and the peace is integral to our culture," he said.

The Prime Minister is on a three-day visit to the Philippines to attend 31st summit of Association of Southeast Asian Nations and 15th East Asia Summit.

Earlier, while addressing the ASEAN Business and Investment summit, he said his government wanted to make India a manufacturing hub.

"We want to make India a global manufacturing hub and we want to make our youngsters job creators," he said at the investment summit.

Prime Minister Modi also met United States President Donald Trump earlier in the day.

"The relations between India and the US are growing. Our relations go beyond and are in the interests of Asia and humanity," he told media after the meeting.
