Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday participated in the 'Swacch Bharat Abhiyan' in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister invited nine more nominees to take part in the campaign. Comedian Kapil Sharma, activist Kiran Bedi and former cricketer Sourav Ganguly were among those nominated.

Bedi expressed her delight for being nominated for the campaign by the Prime Minister.

"We are already working as per his 2nd October announcement; I thank him with folded hands. I am very grateful to the Prime Minister. It will make him even happier to know that his 2nd October announcement was enough for us," she said.

Meanwhile, eminent classical dancer Sonal Mansingh appreciated the Prime Minister's effort to being people from diverse field together for a cause.

"It's a huge endeavor. The Prime Minister has ignited minds. To be a part of this process will be tremendous. I'm so grateful that he thought of bringing in people from diverse fields," said Mansingh.

He also appealed to the 'Dabba walas' in Mumbai and the Indian Institute of Chartered Accountants of India to take part in the mission.

The Prime Minister is visiting Varanasi today to observe 'Good Governance Day' at the birthday of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

As part of the visit, he also paid floral tributes to Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya at the Banaras Hindu University.
