Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 450 MW Baglihar Hydro Electric Project Stage-II, and lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of the Udhampur-Ramban and Ramban-Banihal section of National Highway 44 at a function in Chanderkote, Ramban.

He will address a public meeting at Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium in Srinagar.

He will also address the gathering there.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Prime Minister's visit the city has virtually turned into a fortress with security personnel deployed at every nook and corner.

Many separatist leaders, including Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, have been placed under house arrest, while several others were taken into preventive custody to foil their plan of holding a rally parallel to that of Prime Minister Modi.

Separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani had called for a "million march" to protest against the visit, ensuring the same routine arrest of separatist leaders ahead of any big event.

Besides, the Jammu-Srinagar highway will remain closed from morning till evening on Saturday in view of Modi's visit to Baglihar in Ramban district, say media reports.

"Expectations are high among the people," said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Naval Kishore, adding that there was great excitement and enthusiasm among people, government and his party workers regarding his visit to the state.

When asked about the possibility of the Prime Minister's announcing a package for the state, he said: "People have great expectations from Prime Minister Narendra Bhai, and Narendra Bhai, too, takes care of their concerns and expectations, and I am hopeful that he will not let the people of J&K."

On a question, whether the Prime Minister will invite Hurriyat leaders for a talk, he said, "The Prime Minister is a visionary person, and what he would do, even we are waiting for that with great enthusiasm."

This is Prime Minister Modi's first visit to the state after formation of the PDP-BJP Government.
