The Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna (PMJJBY) has received an encouraging response in Uttarakhand. The number of account holders is almost 2.5 lakh since its launch.
Under the scheme, around 65000 applicants are women while the number of males is pegged at over 1.5 lakh. About 158, 000 people from the Kumaon Division have enrolled themselves to take benefits from the scheme, while the number of such applicants from the Garwhal Division is about 64,000.
Meanwhile, the state government's role has been instrumental in making the PMJJBY scheme a success. The state's finance secretary has asked all district collectors to create awareness among the people.
Bank branches have also been involved in promoting the scheme and launching awareness campaigns in order to attract more account holders to the scheme.
