Politicians criticize Modi for being communal

Several politicians criticised Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for his 'communal image' and for becoming bigger than his party.

The blame game among key players of ongoing general elections has intensified with party representatives slamming each other repeatedly over critical issues including inflation, economic growth, governance and corruption.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati hit out at Modi for riots that took place under his rule in 2002 in Gujarat.

"The Bharatiya Janata Party has named a candidate for Prime Minister's post under whose government in 2002 communal riots took place in Gujarat," said Mayawati while addressing an election rally in Lucknow.

Meanwhile, a leader of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Sitaram Yechury took a dig at Modi's Tsunami wave remark.

"Modi is saying that his wave has turned into Tsunami. Tsunami destroys everything and if he himself claims that, then it means the work he is going to do will destroy the country," said Yechury.

Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said after the results of the ongoing general election will be out, BJP leaders would go against Modi.

"If Modi gets maximum number of seats then there will be opposition within the party and some BJP leaders will oppose him," said Yadav.
