On the final day of his visit to South Korea, Pope Francis prayed for the emergence of new opportunities for talks and the resolution of differences between North and South Korea.

Speaking at a Mass in Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul, Pope referred to all Koreans as members of a family and urged them to reject a mindset of "suspicion and confrontation" and resolve their difference peacefully, reported the BBC.

The congregation was attended by President Park Geun-hye and North Korean defectors.

North and South Korea have been at war since the 1950-53 Korean War which ended in a truce.

Pope left Seoul on Monday and is now scheduled to visit the Philippines and Sri Lanka in January.
