Project to make NHs free of railway crossings unveiled

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the government is making all out effort for infrastructure development as it is a key to the nation's progress.

Launching the Setu Bharatam project, the Prime Minister said the government knows the problems and it wants to change it with strength. The government has taken comprehensive and integrated approach to the infrastructure development, which will give speed and strength to the nation."

He said rural roads have got lot of resources in this year's Budget and it is a focus area for the government.

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishnan were also present during the launch.

Setu Bharatam aims to make all national highways free of railway crossings by 2019. Under the project, 208 places have been identified for construction of rail over-bridges or underpasses.

Around 1,500 bridges that are over 50 to 60 years old will be rebuilt at an approximate cost of more than 50 thousand crore rupees.
