Qatar PM to visit India on Dec 3

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of State for Interior Affairs Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani will visit India on December 3 for bilateral talks.

Ministry of External Affairs' official spokesperson Vikas Swarup said this would be the third high-level bilateral engagement between the two countries in the past two years, which underlined India's growing ties with Qatar.

"Our close and friendly relations with Qatar are based on mutually beneficial commercial exchanges and extensive people-to-people contacts. Qatar is not only an important trading partner for us in the gulf region but is also an important supplier of LNG to us accounting to accounting for 65 percent of our total imports in 2015 and 2016," Swarup added.

Giving details about India's contribution in the progress of Qatar, Swarup said, "Indians form the largest expatriate community in Qatar and their positive contribution in the progress and development of their host country is well recognised. There are over 6,30,000 Indian Nationals working in Qatar.
