The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday described Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's visit to his constituency of Amethi as a 'forced' tour, and termed it as one of the most underdeveloped places in Uttar Pradesh.
"Rahul Gandhi's tour to Amethi should be called a forced tour to his own constituency. It is only because HRD Minister Smriti Irani had been to Amethi that acted as a teaser to Rahul Gandhi to force him to go to his constituency," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI.
"Today, Amethi, which has been under the Gandhi scion for long, should have been a developed place, but the irony is that the constituency is one of the most underdeveloped constituencies of the state. The per-capita income of Amethi is one of the lowest in Uttar Pradesh," he added.
Gandhi is on a three-day visit to Amethi, his first visit since December 2014.
