Rahul to PM Modi: Stop making commitments, start taking action

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the implementation of One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme saying it's time the Prime Minister starts taking action.

"Prime Minister Modi has made many promises on OROP. He also made tall claims about Pakistan. He said the Pakistan will not dare to attack India. He also made commitments on bullet trains in India. But he has not delivered on anything. It's time he stops making commitments and starts taking action," Rahul told the media here.

"Before elections the Prime Minister made tall claims that he would eradicate corruption. But he has not done anything about it. Be is Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje, even OROP he kept quiet. What happened to his words? Why is he quiet? He should speak up," he added.

The Congress vice president expressed his surprise over the OROP row, saying that it was the first time it's happened that those who fight for the nation at the border are on a hunger strike and that the Prime Minister is tight lipped on it.

Rahul also slammed the BJP for claiming before the elections that their government will transform India's economy. "Nobody in the country can see the transformation, in fact our economy is going down. You all saw what happened to the stock market today (referring to the stock market's plunge on Wednesday).

Reacting to BJP's allegations that he was trying to 'politicize' the border issues by visiting the Pakistan firing victims, Rahul said, "I have raised the issue of the victims. Now if the BJP thinks that me raising issues and helping out the people is wrong, then so be it. My job is to hear then out and help them."

"I went to the border and spoke to the people, they were very sad. Their main demands were proper compensation, life insurance and bunker constructions," he added.

Continuing his tirade against Prime Minister Modi, Gandhi said that the Congress is a democratic party where everybody is allowed to speak unlike the BJP where only one man is allowed to speak.

"The Congress is a democratic party. We believe in allowing people to speak, unlike our opponents the BJP, where only one gentleman is allowed to speak and make and break promises," Rahul said.

Rahul Gandhi who is on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir to meet the ceasefire violation victims, had said earlier today, that the government must meet the demands of the victims and urged the centre to stand up for the affected civilians.
