The rumours of a rift between wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni and star Indian batsman Virat Kohli, who replaced him as Test captain, have been denied by India cricket team director Ravi Shastri.
Shastri branded the claims of backroom troubles nonsense. He claimed that they have no idea of the respect Dhoni commands, not just from Kohli but every member of the squad, support staff and administration.
Kohli took over from Dhoni after the Indian captain sensationally retired in the midst of his side's Test series with Australia, News.com.au reported.
Dhoni's decision gave rise to rumours of trouble in the Indian dressing room after the wicketkeeper complained about lack of communication after Kohli had to come out to bat in the morning after Shikhar Dhawan got hit in the nets during the side's defeat in Brisbane, News.com.au reported.
There had been reports that Kohli and Dhawan had argued afterwards.
But the former Indian captain insisted that it is utter nonsense, claiming that not a word was exchanged between the two. He also said that Kohli has been part of the team for almost five years now, adding that the boys are used to him.
Shastri also claimed that he was shocked by his captain's sudden departure. He believes that they were all stumped, adding that Dhoni's decision came like a bolt from the blue.
