Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who suffered a serious hand injury four months ago, has entered the draw for French Open scheduled to take place next month.
Last month in December, Kvitova suffered severe injuries to her playing hand after she was attacked by a knife-wielding intruder at her home in Czech Republic.
"My name will appear on the entry list for Roland Garros tomorrow because I had made good progress in my recovery process and I want to give myself every last opportunity to be able to compete at one of my favourite events," stuff.co.nz quoted Kvitova as saying on Instagram on Monday.
"This unfortunately does not mean necessarily that I will be ready to play in Paris, but that I'm doing everything possible to give myself the chance and keep a positive mind-set."
"There remains a long road ahead but I wanted to share this update with you. Thanks for your continued support and I hope to see you soon," she added.
Kvitova, who won the women's singles titles at Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014, had ruled out of Hopman Cup mixed teams' tennis tournament due to a foot injury.
The French Open starts on May 22.
