'Regrettable' multiple ceasefire violations by Pakistan is 'no way' to 'move forward', says Salman Khurshid

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Sunday termed the multiple ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) as 'regrettable', and said the only constructive way forward for the relationship between the two countries was if Pakistan dismantled its infrastructure of terrorism, delivered justice in the Mumbai terror attacks of 2008 and made a sincere effort to comply with the ceasefire along the border.

"Our concern is the infrastructure of terrorism on Pakistani soil that is used against India. We have absolutely missed no opportunity to say to them that, really, the future of India and Pakistan's relationship depends on dismantling this infrastructure, booking people responsible for what happened in Mumbai (on) 26/11 (2008) and making a sincere effort to comply with the ceasefire of 2003," Khurshid said.

"It is very regrettable. This is no way for us to move forward," he added.

Khurshid also expressed his confidence in the armed forces, and said that he fully believed that the Army was capable of protecting national interests along the LoC.

"Let me just say this, while we express our concern and regret, we have full faith and confidence in our armed forces. I think we don't want to say anything that makes their job more difficult. They are well prepared. They are in a position to take care of our interests," Khurshid said.

"We express sour deep gratitude to our armed forces for looking after us and I think we can say we are proud and confident of our armed forces. So, let us leave it to them to take care of our borders," he added.

Earlier on Friday, Pakistani soldiers opened fire at Border Security Force (BSF) posts at 25 different locations in Jammu and Samba districts.

Two BSF personnel were injured and one infiltrator was killed in the firing as the Indian Army foiled multiple infiltrations bids through the night.

In the past two months, there have been more than 150 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

There has been no improvement in the situation along the Line of Control in the recent past even after the meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan.

In the September 29 talks between Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, both sides had agreed that improving the situation on the LoC is the 'precondition' to 'forward movement' in the India- Pakistan relationship.

Earlier on October 12, Khurshid said that at this stage, the governments of India and Pakistan, and their Prime Ministers have thought it appropriate that matters relating to the LoC and ceasefire violations should be attended to by the DGMOs of the two countries, as they were the best persons and institutions to deal with what is essentially a defence matter.
