Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that striker Luis Suarez should apologise to fans and teammates for wanting to leave as the fans and players of the club deserved more than what he gave them.

According to The Guardian, Rodgers expressed that although Suarez missed games last season, which Liverpool won, it did not mean the club did not want him.

Suarez was absent as Liverpool's pre-season winning streak ground to a halt courtesy of Amido Balde's early goal for his new club and Celtic were fortunate to hold on but it terms of capitalising on a rare chance, the report said.

Liverpool's prized asset has a slight foot injury but was always unlikely to face the Scottish champions due to his continued suspension, the report added.
