Days after President Vladimir Putin admitted Russia has a problem with state corruption, the nation continued to witness massive protests.

Russians had taken to the streets in droves demanding government reforms to tackle the issue.

More than 30 protesters were detained Sunday in central Moscow near Triumfalnaya Square, and another seven activists were detained at nearby Manezhnaya Square, CNN reports quoting state news agency TASS.

However, the Russian nonprofit OVD-Info reported higher numbers, saying that 44 people were arrested in Moscow on Sunday.

Small protests were held in Saint Petersburg and Samara but the largest rally was in Novosibirsk, where several hundred people attended an anti-corruption protest held in solidarity with those arrested last Sunday.

The coordinator of opposition leader Alexei Navalny's office in the city said 1,000 people had attended.
