Russia has expressed its willingness to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia to resolve the issues between the two Islamic countries. This comes days after Saudi Arabia's King Salman's historic visit to Moscow, creating a new era of relations between the two energy giants, who has always been on the different page on important international and regional issues.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has announced that Moscow is willing to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia and establish relations between the two countries.

"We tried several times and suggested that Iran and Saudi Arabia sit down at the negotiating table, but we do not impose our mediator's role," the Russia Today quoted Bogdanov who is also the Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa .

Further said, "We are ready to provide both a platform for contacts and act as a good service provider."

Recently Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif had also reportedly stated that Tehran is ready for dialogue and rapprochement with Riyadh.

Bogdanov added that Moscow had always proceeded from the need to resolve contradictions between the two countries

Saudi Arabia had severed its diplomatic relations with Iran in January 2016, following demonstrations in front of the Saudi embassy in Tehran and its consulate in the northeastern city of Mashhad.
